I’ve been reading the Bible in chronological order and I recently got to the Gospels. Having never read them from start to finish, it has been an exciting journey reading and meditating on the words of Jesus as He ministered the world. One of the reoccurring themes of these accounts of His time here on earth is the importance of faith.
Throughout the gospels, you will find countless stories in which people were able to receive miracles from Heaven through activation of their faith:
And behold, they brought to Him a man paralyzed and prostrated by illness, lying on a sleeping pad; and when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralyzed man, Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven and the penalty remitted. [Matthew 9:2]
‘Then He said to her, ‘daughter, your faith [your personal trust and confidence in Me] has restored you to health; go in peace and be [permanently] healed from your suffering” [Mark 5:34]
“They brought to Him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a stretcher, Seeing their [active] faith [springing from confidence in Him], Jesus said to the paralytic, “Do not be afraid, son; your sins are forgiven [the penalty is paid, the guilt removed, and you declared to be in right standing with God].’ [Matthew 9:2]
There are even accounts of healing and miracles unable to manifest, not because of people’s poor actions or status but because of their lack of faith:
In Mark 6, it says: ‘And He could not do a miracle there at all [because of their unbelief] except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. He wondered at their unbelief.’
You see, it wasn’t that Jesus wasn't ready and willing to give them exactly what they asked for but because they didn’t believe that it could be done, they couldn’t receive it. For me, it all boils down to the finished work of Christ and God’s desire for us to operate as though we were created to be like Him because we were.
Peter tells us that God gave us everything we need as it pertains to life and godliness and the privilege of knowing Him and walking with Him is that we share in His divine nature. And in His divine nature, God completed all of His work from the foundation of the world. [Hebrews 4:3] God is resting and everything we need has been set up for us, we need only to exercise our faith, believe that it is finished and receive it.
“For the one who has once entered His rest has also rested from the [weariness and pain of] his [human] labors, just as God rested from [those labors uniquely] His own. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest [of God, to know and experiences it for ourselves]..’ [Hebrews 4:11-12]
Jesus, God incarnate, came to the earth fully God. Therefore, He knew everything that was about to go down when He got here and He walked in faith and confidence that it would happen. We are to follow His example. Heaven is ready and waiting to release all that Christ died for you to have for the glory of God. I encourage you to adjust your mindset and operate not according to what you don’t have but according to what God has. When we limit ourselves, we limit Him as well.
